Dhanteras 2026 Gold Buying in Dubai: Date, Offers and Tips

Every year, Dubai's gold shops fill up for Dhanteras and Diwali, when buying gold is an important tradition for the UAE's large Indian community. In 2026, Dhanteras falls on Friday 6 November and Diwali on Sunday 8 November.
Why people buy gold on Dhanteras
Dhanteras is the first day of the Diwali festivities. In Hindu tradition it is an auspicious day to buy gold and silver, which symbolise prosperity, so many people book their purchases in advance and collect them on the day.
What to expect in Dubai
- Crowds at the Deira Gold Souk, in Karama and in malls, especially in the evening.
- Offers that shops often run in this season, such as discounts on making charges or gifts with purchase. Offers vary from shop to shop, so read the conditions.
- Advance booking: some shops let you lock in the rate with a deposit. Ask what happens if the rate drops before you collect.
How to benefit without overpaying
- Check today's gold rate in Dubai. Offers usually change the making charge, not the gram rate.
- Compare the offer with the full price: weight × gram rate + making charge + 5% VAT. Use the jewellery price calculator.
- If you are saving rather than wearing, consider a coin, a bar or a tola with a low making charge.
- Ask for a detailed invoice and check the hallmark on the piece.
- If you are a tourist, ask about the VAT refund.
22K or 24K?
Most Dhanteras jewellery is 22K, while coins and bars are 24K. Read 22K or 24K gold in Dubai.
