When to Buy Gold in Dubai: Festivals, Seasons and Offers
Many shoppers ask whether there is a better time of year to buy gold in Dubai. The answer has two parts: shop promotions that repeat in well-known seasons, and global price moves that nobody can predict precisely.
1. Dubai's promotion seasons
- Dubai Shopping Festival: usually held in December and January. Jewellers often discount making charges and run prize draws.
- Dubai Summer Surprises: usually in July and August, sometimes with similar offers.
During these events the raw gold rate itself does not drop, because it follows the global price. What drops is the making charge, which is the part that differs from one shop to another.
2. High-demand seasons
Gold demand in the UAE rises around Diwali and Akshaya Tritiya for the Indian community, and around Eid and the wedding season. Jewellers launch special offers, but shops are busier.
3. What about the global price?
Historical data going back to the 1970s suggests prices have sometimes tended to dip in March and early April, and between mid-June and early July, and to rise in January and from September to November. This is a historical tendency, not a rule, and any year can be different because of interest rates, the dollar and world events.
The practical takeaway
- If you are buying jewellery or a gift, use the promotion seasons to save on making charges.
- If you are buying to save, do not try to time the market precisely. Buying in instalments can be calmer than waiting for the perfect moment.
- Check the gold rate today in the UAE before any purchase, and compare making charges across two or three shops.
